IC INFORMATION;
Character Name; Denmark.
Canon; Axis Powers Hetalia.
Canon Point; Pre-Series, 1864; following the end of the 2nd Schleswig War and the Treaty of Vienna.
Age; Technically; over 2,000. Physically; late 20s.
House; BALDR.
Power; Regeneration.
Personality; Denmark is, more often than not, a character with a cheerful disposition. He likes people, likes talking, likes social situations. Of all the Nordic's (Sweden, Finland, Norway, Iceland, and himself) he is definitely the loudest, often to the point of being considered annoying by those very Nations he grew up around. He can be charming because he is confident and this occasionally transitions over into him being fairy cocky. He can get carried away sometimes and doesn't listen terribly well to others, this all being a byproduct of his success during his Viking days and then being the "favored son" for the duration of the Kalmar Union.
He is lighthearted much of the time, choosing to continue living in a more positive light following the ending of his empire rather than wallow in bitterness. Because he likes to talk he can sometimes let this get out of hand and be rather loud. He is extremely dedicated to those he cares about, those being the other Nordics, whom he considers his family, regardless of their somewhat apathetic and occasionally downright chilly reception of him. His relationships with the the Nordics are all pretty varied. While he cares for them all in his own way he treats them all as their shared history has dictated. He considers himself closest to Norway, whom he has shared Kings and a Kingdom with for hundreds of years. Their shared culture and similar language has further tied them together in ways that the others cannot exactly compete with and Denmark loves Norway like a brother, a partner, and a best friend. He does not hesitate to harass Norway to spend time with him and it really doesn't matter when they do together, as long as they are in each other's company.
Iceland he cares for as a brother or son of his own, caring for him following Norway's forced removal from his house. While Denmark hasn't always been the best "father" in terms of policy, causing Iceland to suffer greatly through trade restrictions and failure to protect him from various other attacks on his country's well-being, Denmark forges onward by treating Iceland with great affection, whether Iceland seems to want it or not.
His relationship with Sweden is a bit more complicated. Historically Denmark and Sweden have fought more wars against each other than any other country and their interactions can be awkward, fraught with tension, and packed with baiting one another, on both sides. Between the two Denmark is often the one to either lose his temper first and lash out physically. Despite all this however Denmark does not go out of his way to avoid Sweden, holding it more against the other Nordic nation for leaving the Kalmar Union in the first place and, in effect, Denmark's house, than genuinely disliking him personally.
With Finland Denmark probably has the least connection with. Finland left the same time Sweden did, though Denmark holds that against Sweden, not Finland. He considers Finland a part of the family and would object to Finland claiming otherwise. Denmark's thoughts on him are amiable and he pities him a little bit for being Sweden's "wife", which he thinks has got to be a real chore.
Denmark's relationships very much shape who he is, he depends on them immensely, and he smiles easily and likes to have a good time. However, despite his good humor he is also capable of taking things seriously when the situation necessitates and can be a bit domineering, leftover characteristics of his past when he called himself the King of Northern Europe. Because of this history Denmark has a reputation of being quite scary when he is caught up defending what he deems his, and regardless of all the Nordic Nations defining themselves as independent countries during the modern age this characteristic has not changed. He is passionate and as a former Viking warrior can be brutally dangerous, though this is often masked by his good sense of humor and amiable disposition. He loves a good night out drinking, spending time with people, family, and fishing. He's very competitive about things he deems worthwhile and hates losing, he dislikes stoic behavior, hates being ignored, and can't stand lutefisk (he can't comprehend how Norway can eat it).
SAMPLES;
Network Sample; Very official meeting thread between Norway and Denmark.
Log Sample; The air was clear, fresh and icy cold, the clean scent of trees and freshly fallen snow making his nose tingle. Denmark licked his lips, ignoring the chill that his next inhaled breath brought, and leaned his weight forward, his grip on his battleaxe shifting as he sank forward slightly.
Before him, down into a whited out ravine, there was a battle raging. He could hear the clash of swords, the high whisper of arrows as they were released, deadly tips searching for purchase in flesh and bone. The shouts of the men below him were distant and the entire tableau, from his perspective, was somewhat ridiculous. They looked like ants.
He had no interest in them. Heaving a sigh Denmark straightened, wrenching his axe up out of the snow and hefting it over shoulder with an ease that belied his build and turned around, striding away from the battle.
It was beginning to snow again.
He was supposed to meet Norway soon, the other had given specific instructions about the when and where but Denmark had only been half listening. He wasn't too worried though. He'd find the shorter Nation eventually and while the other had really perfected his icy glares Denmark was pretty sure he was getting better at withstanding them. Pretty sure anyway.
He smiled to himself. Maybe he could convince Norway to make gløgg when they got home and just thinking about it made his mouth water, the thought of curling up with a mug and Norway's company.
